Celebrating a friendship that radiates childlike sincerity from within. Friends, Artania and Christy, bring to life a nostalgic playfulness as captured amidst the lush greens of Singapore.

Through the lens of Artania’s camera, Christy’s effervescent personality shines through. When teased about what The Slow Press is all about, as a founder, her answer is simple, “It’s never about food reviews.”

For Christy, it’s about being reintroduced to individual cuisines, dishes, and ingredients through interactions with people. She gets to know food as an individual with a name, just like a person in a group of people. As children, we were introduced to the concept of food through whatever we happened to eat. Initially, it was just milk, then fruits, and eventually, Oreos. At first, we called them by their names. Then, as our library of things to eat grows, we call them food.

Christy finds comfort in talking about things through the lens of a kid. A genuine interest in discovering something new in a familiar space.

To preserve the sense of wonder that we feel when we see bubbles for the first time. To be reintroduced to someone or something you already know. If people change, nature and food change too. Perhaps, the next time you taste something nostalgic, try asking:

“what is new this time round?”
